Arms and the Man
Arms and the Man was produced in the Fall of 2007 at the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee.
Directed by Michelle Lopez-Rios.
Directing students in the university setting is half directing and half teaching. As a director I worked with faculty designers and production students to create the world of a young Bulgarian woman discovering the realities of love and war. I challenged the acting students with Shaw's witty language and political undertones. The teaching moments came in the execution and expectations in rehearsal. We worked very hard on the actor's process, the language, and the period. I mentored and worked closely with a student dramaturg and student stage managers. It was a delightful experience.
